Professor Darren Trott is a veterinarian and microbiologist with research interests including zoonotic, companion and production animal bacterial diseases, focusing on population genetics, molecular epidemiology, microbial pathogenesis, antibiotic resistance and development of new antimicrobials. He has published 110 peer reviewed manuscripts in microbiology and veterinary science journals. He teaches veterinary microbiology, antimicrobial chemotherapy and antimicrobial stewardship to animal and veterinary science students and has current research projects in the following areas: 1) Links between antibiotic resistance and virulence in E. coli and Staphylococcus isolated from companion animals, food-producing animals and humans. 2) New classes of drugs for superbug infections
