Anne Fowler

Adelaide Bird & Exotics Vet Centre
Anne Fowler graduated from Sydney University after completing an Honours year investigating vitamin D in marsupials. Throughout her career in both mixed and small animal practice in both NSW and Victoria, she has always been interested in birds and exotic pets. Her previous roles have included working with avian specialist, Dr Pat Macwhirter at the Burwood Bird and Animal Hospital; Senior Clinical Registrar at Sydney University’s Wildlife Health and Conservation Centre and associate veterinarian at Healesville Sanctuary in Victoria.
Her continuing interest in the less common species that veterinarians treat has culminated in achieving Memberships in the Australia and New Zealand College of Vet Scientists in Avian Health (2004); Medicine of Australasian Wildlife (2008) and Medicine and Surgery of Unusual Pets (2013). Anne has been lecturing on birds and pocket pets at national and state AVA conferences and at UPAV conferences over the last 10 years.
After moving to Adelaide in 2013, Anne worked at the Adelaide Animal Emergency and Referral Centre where she offered a referral service for birds, small mammals, reptiles and wildlife. In 2016, she opened the Adelaide Bird and Exotic Vet Centre which aims to provide primary accession and referral for the unusual pets. Recognition that not only dogs and cats can share a human-animal bond, and that this bond can be as strong between an owner and a budgie or a frog is a strongly-held philosophy. Anne aims to provide a level of veterinary care suitable to the owner’s expectations and budget that maximises the welfare and outcome of her furred, feathered and scaley patients
