Dr Magdoline Awad is the Chief Veterinary Officer for Petsure (Australia)Prior to this, she was Chief Veterinarian at RSPCA NSW from 2008-2015, after starting with the organisation in 1996.She developed an interest in shelter /population medicine, an area of veterinary medicine that focuses on infectious disease prevention and treatment, stress reduction and behavioural management of companion animals in a shelter setting. Magdoline was involved in the establishment of the RSPCA’s Pets of Older Persons Program (POOPS), Community Animal Welfare Scheme (CAWS) and the Indigenous Dog Health Programs in NSW. The Chief Veterinarian’s remit encompassed four veterinary clinics and one outpatient clinic in NSW, and over 100 staff including vets, vet nurses, behavioural vets and trainers as well as community outreach staff. RSPCA NSW is one of the largest employers of vets in NSW and is also involved in teaching and assessing final year veterinary interns. The RSPCA Veterinary hospitals service privately owned animals, surrendered, stray and adoption animals and animals seized under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.Magdoline has a graduate degree in Veterinary Professional Practice Management, and Membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in the Animal Welfare Chapter. She sits on the Animal Research and Review Panel NSW and is a member of an UNSW Animal Ethics Committee. She balances her workload and young family by running with her RSPCA adopted dogs, and proudly notes she was once in the front rows of the City2Surf starting line.
